Application 3

Manufacturing processes: extrusion and blow molding

The starting point: Material changes and new geometries slow down the process

A new material, a changed profile, a different film, or a new blow-molded part often raises questions: Is the material suitable at all? Where is the right process window? Will the process run stably? For extrusion and blow molding, specific rheological properties are decisive – yet they are often incomplete or missing in common material databases.

The solution: MatIQ and StrömungsRaum®

You start with what you have: polymer classification, approximate rheology parameters, and the relevant temperature window – optionally supplemented by line or tool parameters. Based on this, the system finds the best-matching materials from the NETZSCH database, with selection focused on rheological properties.

The resulting material card focuses on what really matters for extrusion and blow molding: isothermal models and extensional viscosity. PVT parameters are included where relevant for the application. Each card receives a quality label that transparently shows which predictions are already reliable – and where targeted follow-up measurements should be used to maximize process security.

The system also suggests alternative material groups – evaluated by carbon footprint, price, and availability. This expands your decision basis without additional research effort, where it makes sense.

Your benefits at a glance

  • Fast assessment of material suitability – a sound basis from virtual material testing that secures decisions before costly process trials begin
  • Process-relevant rheology – focus on the properties that really count for extrusion and blow molding
  • Less measurement effort, more targeted investment – a clear must-have vs. optional logic shows where follow-up measurements add real value
  • Well-founded process window evaluation – better decisions before line or tool are stressed
  • Expanded material selection – alternative grades including carbon footprint, price, and availability at a glance
